Biography
Valerie Marks was born into a harmonious but small family of music lovers. At the tender age of five, she was introduced to the world of music. As a child she was nurtured whilst encouraged to learn and sing gospel songs. She enjoyed listening to jazz music and tried to parody all her favourite singers. Practicing songs became a part of Valerie’s daily life, influenced by magnetised performances from the lady of soul; Aretha Franklin, Billie Holiday, Diana Washington, Whitney Houston and Ella Fitzgerald - to highlight a few - some of the greatest recording artists of all time. Her love for singing turned into an endless passion that she craves.
Valerie embraced the big stage at the age eight and was awarded a recording contract with
Tuff Gong Recording Studio (Bob Marley Music Recording Studio) and a scholarship to the Jamaica School of Music where she studied Piano, Theory of Music, Drumming and Percussions.
Valerie is a singer songwriter, actor, drama school graduate and member of Black Women in The Arts. She enjoys performing in the theatre, staying in touch with her self, breathing life into the written word and giving joy to the heart. Valerie is a well-rounded performer with diverse skills and she has a flexible approach to music and live entertainment performances.
